A Bit of History
Founded in 1910 by Alice Yoe and Harry Ijams, the nature center began as a personal bird sanctuary. Over time, the land was expanded and eventually donated to the city. Today, Ijams is a nonprofit environmental education center and one of Knoxville’s most beloved public spaces.
